Autumn Term Week 3 in Dragonflies...
This week, Dragonflies have listened to the story of 'The Colour Monster'. In this story, the Colour Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad and scared all at once. To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through colour. As a class we talked about the different feelings shown in the book and how we might know that somebody is feeling happy, angry, scared, or sad. We discussed the Calm Corner in our classroom and the types of things we could do in this area, for example, read a book, cuddle 'Mrs Sloth', sit quietly, practise breathing deeply or lie down on the cushions.
In PE this week, the children had the apparatus out in the hall for the first time. They explored different ways that they could travel and balance on the different pieces of equipment and Mrs Horlor and Miss Garrett were impressed to see how brave they were. The children are also trying really hard to get themselves changed – buttons can be very tricky! We ask that they keep practicing getting dressed and undressed at home to help with this. We have continued to introduce our new sounds in our daily phonics sessions and next week the children will be bringing home their first phonics reading books alongside their library books to enjoy with you. We will be inviting parents to join us for Reading Workshops later this half-term too.
